As we head into the holiday season, I remind myself that this is supposed to be a season of joy. But for many of us, it is a season of stress.
I was raised in a typical American pseudo-Christian household that did all of the commercial Christmas things. The majority of my holiday seasons have gone like this: spend lots of money, worry if I bought everyone the perfect gift, eat a lot, drink too much, spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking and cleaning, experience euphoria on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, followed by a big crash after the New Year. Then, I would tough it through the boring, blah winter months. Winter was always a let-down after the holidays.

Is Dad hard to buy Christmas gifts for? If adults have difficulty choosing holiday gifts for men, think of the problem it is for children. Here are four possibilities.
Fire Starters for Dad
Most dads have either a fireplace or barbeque and can use fire starters. Have the child pick up pine cones at the park or anywhere there are pine trees. Let them dry out. You can decorate them with a little glitter if you wish. Pile them up in an attractive basket or bucket, add a big ribbon and the gift is ready. It?s also inexpensive!

The women in my family have a thanksgiving tradition that they have followed for more years than I can remember. The planning and strategy goes into effect days before thanksgiving itself. They gather at my sister?s house, and they begin to go through the sale ads for the busiest shopping day out of the year, which is the day after thanksgiving. I’m sure many people do the same, but they are among an elite and dedicated fanatic organization called the early birders. These renegade shoppers are perhaps the best in the world and the level of competition ranks right up there with the Olympics. In fact, there are rumors circulating through this underground coalition that this may soon become an experimental Olympic event at the games of 2008.

An Advent wreath is a ring with four candles used by some Christians and churches to mark the passing of the holy season of Advent.
The candles are illuminated in succession on each of the four weeks (Saturday evenings or Sundays) of Advent. Some Advent wreaths have a fifth candle which is lit on Christmas Day to signify Christ’s birth. Advent wreaths are symbolic:
- The wreath represents God’s eternity.
- The first candle, known as “The Prophet’s Candle” signifies the hope of Jesus’ arrival.

The Christmas holiday season is a magical time of the year. It is easy to encounter happy strangers, as well as friends and loved ones, who greet one another with the joy and goodwill that abounds. All of these feelings of fun, festivity and fellowship create the perfect backdrop for the annual Christmas party.
In general there are two broad categories of Christmas parties. One is the traditional office one which is usually held sometime in December. There has been a rather recent trend for office parties to be held early in the month of December, rather than very close to Christmas Day.
